New accessibility updates to emc
Sep 15, 2021
As the leading medicine information provider in the UK, we are excited to reveal our new features, which include making medicines information more accessible to all patients.
We have been working on enhancing the user experience on emc. In particular, we have focused on making medicines information more accessible to all patients and healthcare professionals.
What’s new with emc?
ATC Codes
ATC (Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical) codes have been added to product pages on emc. These codes have been extracted from all Summaries of Product characteristics (SmPCs) with an ATC code listed. In addition, registered emc users that are logged in can now view lists of products in the same Level 4 classification, through the 'Find similar products' function. Using the ATC code, medicines are classified in groups at five different levels, according to the various properties. HCPs and pharma can now easily find other medicines in the same Level 4 chemical subgroup.
User segmentation
At the top of the homepage on emc, we are showing a banner which asks users to identify which of the three segments best describes them, ‘pharma, HCP or patient/other’. This will enable us to gain more insight on the effectiveness of the medicines information as well as the patient journey.
Improved accessibility
Our updated system gives registered emc users the ability to print Patient Information Leaflets in large print. By having the option to print in a larger format, we are supporting Health Care Professionals to provide patients with more accessible and readily available medicines information.
This feature is included with the emc regulatory solution, the best way for Pharma to fulfil regulatory requirements, whilst enabling partially-sighted or blind people to access the latest Patient Information Leaflets.
