New emc northern ireland features to be released in 2022

Jan 4, 2022

New features for the electronic medicines compendium (emc) northern ireland available to pharmaceutical companies and HCPs in 2022

In March 2021, following the signing of the Northern Ireland Protocol, Datapharm launched emc northern ireland to help emc customers maintain their compliance in the region.

Already, in less than a year, emc northern ireland has received  2,549 document submissions  and updates from the pharmaceutical industry and is currently hosting 1,442 live documents  (including SmPCs, PILs and RMMs) - [last updated 11/01/2022].

emc northern ireland has been supported by communications from Health and Social Care Northern Ireland to all HCPs in their database. Furthermore, we have now added it as a useful link to the  emc website and we plan to implement a geolocated pop-up which will help flag to all Northern Ireland based traffic on the emc website the resources available on emc northern ireland.

Let’s look back at all the new features implemented in 2021:

  • RMM tab

Allows Risk Minimisation Materials (RMMs) to be displayed either as an external URL or a PDF file.

  • Company filter

Medicines are now listed both alphabetically and by company name.

  • Search functionality

Ability to search by medicine or company name.

  • Implementation of easy-to-use URLs

Direct link to product-specific documents or company portfolio page.

  • emc pi portal & icomply integration

We have integrated emc northern ireland with the emc pi portal and the icomply app.

What’s new for emc northern ireland in 2022?

Take a quick look at some of the exciting new features that we are working on, which we plan to implement this year:

  • XML Patient Information Leaflets (X-PILs)

You will soon be able to convert PIL documents into X-PIL. The X-PIL is more responsive and supports the requirement to have medical information in accessible format.

  • Improved linking between emc and emc northern ireland

We are adding functionality for linking medicines on emc to the emc northern ireland website.

  • Auditing tool

We are bringing a popular emc publisher feature to emc northern ireland, allowing visibility of submission reports for auditing purposes.

  • Retire a document

You’ll soon be able to archive or retire a document.

Datapharm works closely with pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals to continue to develop emc, implement new features to enhance user experience and further position emc northern ireland as the leading electronic medicines compendium for the region.
