Women in tech: Meet Belinda

Jan 1, 2025

Datapharm fosters a workplace driven by passion and teamwork. Hear from Belinda Taylor, Financial Manager, who transitioned from Zimbabwe's travel industry to the UK medicine sector.

Can you please share a bit about your career journey?

My career journey is quite diverse. Starting in Zimbabwe, I worked in the travel industry and then moved over to the UK and worked in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic surgery industry and banking.

After that, I took ten years out to spend time with my family and focus on bringing up my little girls. And in 2017, I returned to the workforce, joining Datapharm and the tech industry, which I thoroughly enjoy - it's an exciting environment to be in!

Tell us about your role at Datapharm

As a Finance Manager, a typical day would be overseeing financial transactions, preparing, reviewing and reporting on management accounts, and then moving onto preparation for the audit, making sure that we're compliant.

What would you say to someone considering a career in the tech industry?

The tech industry is ever changing and fast paced. There's a multitude of roles within the tech industry. Everybody, I think, feels that you need to be a ‘techie’ to work in the tech industry, but there are so many other values that the tech industry needs.

Communications skills, collaborating and just working across departments to make the tech industry work and the demand for women is obviously increasing. So if you like the fast pace and want to grow, then definitely the tech industry is worth giving a shot!

..I've been here seven years and, quite honestly, it's just been an amazing journey and I would do it all over again.

- Belinda Taylor ( Finance Manager, Datapharm)

What has surprised you the most working at Datapharm?

What surprised me most about working with Datapharm is the people, the culture and the values that Datapharm holds, and the passion that everybody has, knowing that we can achieve what we set out to do by working together.

What would you say to anyone considering joining Datapharm?

Datapharm is such a great company, with great people, the growth of a company allowing us to grow, the support from training and encouragement and communication across the whole of the departments. It's just a great place to work!

I've been here coming up to eight years and, quite honestly, it's just been an amazing journey and I would do it all over again.

How has Datapharm changed since you joined?

The company has changed massively. When I first joined Datapharm, we were in a small office in Leatherhead, a not-for-profit company. Over the seven years, it's changed dramatically.

We've gone from 12 or so employees to 60 and are fast growing whilst continuing to employ a great group of people. We spend a lot of time at work and it is important to have a work environment where we as individuals feel valued. That's what Datapharm gives me.

What does the future of medicines information look like to you?

For me, it's personalisation for everybody. We're going down the whole DNA route. It's about personalisation and being able to access the information with ease across generations.
