Datapharm appoints new Chair

Sep 12, 2022

The UK’s market leader in medicines information, Datapharm, is delighted to announce Dr Neil Rotherham’s appointment as chair of the board.

Neil has a wealth of experience building tech businesses in pharmaceutical services and healthcare. Originally qualifying in medicine, Neil worked for a pharmaceutical company in drug development before setting up his first tech business, ClinPhone, in 1993. Neil took ClinPhone to float on the London Stock Exchange and to its eventual sale to Parexel in 2007. Since then, Neil has been involved as board chair and investor with other business builds, including Exco InTouch, Greenphire and PRECOS.

Speaking of his appointment, Neil said: “I am delighted to be joining such an interesting and prestigious business that is crucial to the way we safely manage access to accurate information on marketed pharmaceutical products. Datapharm is now at an exciting inflexion point that will see the service offering and geographical coverage expand. The business has an experienced team and an ambitious investment partner and is therefore well positioned for the next phase of growth and development.”

Simon Abrams, CEO of Datapharm, added: “Neil has a phenomenal track record, and brings a fantastic array of relevant business building, investor and sector experience. Importantly, he shares our ambitions to grow the business and deepen Datapharm’s value, creating impact for customers and stakeholders across healthcare. We’re thrilled to be working with him during the next stage of Datapharm’s exciting journey.”

The appointment also underlines the impressive progression of Datapharm’s medicines information platform, emc. Since its launch in 1999, its database has grown to more than 85 million users annually and includes over 10,000 medicines at present. Beyond medicines information, the platform has expanded to provide pharma companies with compelling audience and engagement data, in turn supporting Datapharm’s mission of improving the accessibility, effectiveness and excellence of healthcare product information.

As the company’s development builds momentum we look to extend support to non-UK healthcare professionals and enhance healthcare on a global scale.
